For several years I have written short devotionals on the subject of prayer. The collection of 40 or so thematic writings on intimacy with God sit on my blog site undisturbed and gathering cyber dust.(Onshouldersoftheshepherd.blogspot.com) Then last year while in Puebla, Mexico, I walked through the old town with my daughter Audrey, distracted by and then fully absorbed in the different entry ways of the homes that lined it’s picturesque streets. The camera’s eye focused on the mystery of those inviting portals, each so distinct, so full of history…so inviting. An idea began to take shape to use the pictures from Puebla, along with others I’ve more recently snapped in New York City, to create a devotional book with the theme, “At the Door. “Jesus said, “Behold I stand at the door and knock…”, a most beautiful and profound invitation for abiding in Christ through the gift of prayer. Here’s a door I shot this afternoon a couple blocks from my apartment in Bed Stuy, Brooklyn.
I love the pictures.
To witness God while living your day (seeing these doors) is where it’s at!
